For startup speed, MS Office wins with a clear margin, but not overwhelming. The difference amounts to perhaps 5 seconds on first start, and around 1 second on subsequent starts (when modules are already in memory, I guess). I uninstalled the trial version of MS-Office 2007 as it was pathetically slow on Vista Home Premium on both the systems. This year I bought a Viao Laptop and an Acer Desktop, both had MS-Office 2007 trial version.
